Our School

Our Vision

Bede was a committed scholar and educator in the service of God.

With Bede as our model and Christ as our everlasting light, we strive to build a Catholic school community where each is given time and support to learn to know, to do, to live together and to be.

Christus Dies Aeterna Nostra

Christ our ever lasting light. Christ our ever lasting day.

Our School

St Bede’s Primary School is a vibrant and nurturing Catholic learning community located in the heart of Balwyn North. Guided by our faith and inspired by the example of St Bede, we are committed to fostering a love of learning, a spirit of service and a strong sense of belonging in every child.

At St Bede’s, we believe that every student is known, valued and supported. Our school provides a safe and inclusive environment where children are encouraged to grow academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally. We work in partnership with families and our parish to ensure that each child flourishes and feels connected within our community of faith.

The current student population is approximately 231, accommodated in 11 class groups.  Our current class structure is straight classes in the junior levels and composite classes in the senior levels.

Our History

St Bede’s is one of two Catholic Schools in the parish of St Theresa of Kolkata, formerly the parishes of  St Anne and St Bede. St Bede’s School was established in 1945 by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions and commenced on the 19th February with 21 students. Sr Catherine Brabender was the last Sister of Our Lady of the Missions to lead St Bede’s school.

There has always been a very strong community spirit and the support of parents and their close involvement in all aspects of the school and parish has been one of its strengths. This continues into the present day.

St Bede’s School is a school which operates with the consent of the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne and is operated and governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).

MACS governs and operates Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to continue the mission of Catholic education to proclaim the Good News and equip our young people with the knowledge, skills, and hope to live meaningful lives and enrich the world around them.

Because the good work of educating the young is a co-responsible task led by every member of the Catholic school community, School Advisory Councils have been established to provide a crucial point of connection between the wider school community and school leaders. This governance model was designed to ease the administrative burden on our schools and parishes, allow parish priests to focus on the mission of education in the parish, enable greater collaboration between schools and ensure greater consistency in school policies and procedures.

More information about MACS is available at www.macs.vic.edu.au
