Academic Excellence

Learning & Teaching

At St Bede’s School, our Learning and Teaching is grounded in evidence-based practice and best-practice research. We draw on the Model of Cognition and the Science of Learning to ensure teaching is aligned with how students learn best, building knowledge, strengthening memory and developing deep understanding over time. Our approach reflects the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement, ensuring every classroom is purposeful, inclusive and challenging.

Teachers use a consistent Explicit Teaching model to clearly model new learning, guide practice, provide timely feedback and regularly review previously learned concepts. Learning is carefully differentiated to meet the needs of every student, supporting those who require extension as well as those needing additional support. Through high expectations, strong relationships and a commitment to continuous improvement, we strive to ensure that all students are known, valued and empowered to flourish academically, socially and spiritually.

St Bede’s School is a school which operates with the consent of the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne and is operated and governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).

MACS governs and operates Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to continue the mission of Catholic education to proclaim the Good News and equip our young people with the knowledge, skills, and hope to live meaningful lives and enrich the world around them.

Because the good work of educating the young is a co-responsible task led by every member of the Catholic school community, School Advisory Councils have been established to provide a crucial point of connection between the wider school community and school leaders. This governance model was designed to ease the administrative burden on our schools and parishes, allow parish priests to focus on the mission of education in the parish, enable greater collaboration between schools and ensure greater consistency in school policies and procedures.
